Nutrition Struggle #3: I binge or over eat. I can’t control my portions. What is a portion, anyway?
A few struggles put together into one. This most often comes down to going too long without eating.
Does this sound like typical day in your busy life…skip breakfast, run off to work or get the kids to school, maybe grab a cup of coffee. Then run to a meeting or other kid activity, get stuck at the desk, can’t leave because of a looming deadline. Lunch is maybe something ordered in, maybe something
from the vending machine, maybe doesn’t happen at all. Leave work, pick up the kids, come home, order in or go out. By now you’re tired, starving and incapable of making a healthy decision. Eat way too much, way too late in the day and then you’re not hungry when you wake up in the morning and the cycle begins all over again.
How do you conquer this struggle? Keep food with you. Put a cooler in the back seat of the car, add
some fruit, veggies, maybe some peanut butter, maybe hummus. Keep some kind of protein bar or powder in your desk so that in a pinch you can take a bite or just add some water to create a healthier, heartier snack or even a meal.
Is eating on the go your best bet? NO. But that may be where your life is right now. And remember, we’re talking about preventing overeating when we’re starving.
If I tell you to schedule some time into your day for a serene, peaceful lunch somewhere with a nice view, you will stop reading and never get started changing your life. My goal is to reach you where you are today and encourage you to make small changes that add up to a lifestyle change in the long run.
