They’re not what you think they are. These are some of the most trusted names in the supermarket. They have made healthy convenient. Thanks to Naked and Odwalla, many of us are drinking our veggies and fruits in flavor combinations we never thought possible. That’s a great thing, right?
Maybe. Maybe not.
This is about “the more you know.” All of these brands and dozens of others are owned by “Big Food.” They’re owned by giant corporations who manufacture food. Many of them also proudly display the “organic” label. Many of them have been tested and been found to contain pesticides.
This infographic popped up in my Facebook feed and I shared it.
You may not be on Facebook or it may simply not have shown up in your newsfeed. It’s important information. It shows which seemingly healthy foods are owned by which giant food manufacturer.
I am sharing this information to help you make better decisions about what you buy in the store. This is not to say that all foods labeled organic are liars. Most are not. Most smaller brands are honest people who do their best to provide a healthy alternative to the GMO/pesticide-laden world we live in.
So how are you supposed to figure out what you “should” and “should not” eat?
Here’s the key to this meme. Almost all of the items and brands are manufactured or processed foods. If you’re focusing on increasing the whole foods and the health benefits of having whole foods be a regular part of your diet, you don’t have to worry about the information in this meme. You won’t be buying the marjority of theses foods or brands anyway.
For your own information, the more you know about where the food you’re putting into your body comes from, the better. In a perfect world (also known as the time of our great-grand-parents, at least as far as food production goes), we would each have our own garden of our favorite veggies and/or we would know the local farmer who grows our food and we would know him/her well enough to know if they use pesticides or not. We would only eat what we grow or what someone we knows grows.
Since that is not the world we live in, find out as much as you can and make your choices armed with as much knowledge as you can.
